On June 23rd, 2012 at Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) Lutney Hall, Founder of Hip Hop 4 Life Tamekia Flowers-Holland hosted her annual Shades of Beauty Women of Inspiration Brunch & Awards Ceremony. Last Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the kick off of AMBERmag.com’s Speaker Series, Survival Secrets of Game Changers hosted at Uniworld Group’s Brooklyn headquarters. Featuring Style Strategist Rachel Johnson and Style Expert Daisy Lewellyn, the event drew over 100 New York City movers and shakers in the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industries.

The night was filled with inspiring insights, valuable lessons and offered the guests a chance to connect with two of the fashion industry’s Game Changers

The Curly Girl Collective’s “Curl Crush” brought out some of the city’s classiest naturalistas for a night of speed dating, scavenger hunt fun, fab product giveaways, and curly girl-inspired cocktails. Hats off to the ladies of CGC for yet another stellar event. Honored to have been a part of the magic as a featured “curl crush” and can’t wait to see what type of awesomeness you have in store for 2012!

I can’t imagine a more inspiring way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary in New York! “Her Word As Witness: Women Writers of the African Diaspora” opened yesterday at Restoration Plaza’s Skylight Gallery. It’s a must see!

Last weekend in Chicago was absolutely beauty-full! As the perfect follow-up to Friday evening’s “Treasure Our Tresses” event, celebrity makeup artist Tia Dantzler hosted her first ever “Beauty Elixer” workshop for makeup artists, stylists, and industry peers. While makeup and styling isn’t my area of expertise, I still managed to walk away enlightened and empowered since much of what was discussed can easily be applied to any career. Tia and her well-curated panel of seasoned industry professionals (including our girl, Afrobella), provided guests with insider tips on getting into the business, branding, strategy, social media, PR and marketing

Last Saturday evening the South Loop’s CityPoint Loft was the place to be for Windy City natural beauties. EDEN BodyWorks joined forces with beauty bloggers “The Mane Source” and “Natural Chica” to host one of the city’s hottest natural hair meetups to date. EDEN BodyWorks VP of Marketing, Ylorie Anderson, spearheaded the event with PR support from yours truly (via Crush Media). In one word, the night was magical! Over 150+ women converged onto the CityPoint Loft for a night of natural hair trivia, mixing and mingling, EDEN BodyWorks product testing, delectable eats, and natural hair-inspired cocktails.
