2012 was an unforgettable year for me and December’s “Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands” event was definitely a highlight. If you weren’t able to join us, we’ve got you covered. Our girls over at Mane Moves have produced an awesome video that truly captures the evening’s essence. Although I’d been living and breathing this event for the past few weeks, seeing this video was like TRULY being in the room for the first time. I definitely shed a few tears of pride and joy while viewing (yes, I’m a softie at times). There were so many brilliant and inspiring women in the room and so many jewels shared. What do you get when you put together a panel with six of the hottest beautypreneurs in the industry? Jewels. Yes, jewels! Supreme words of wisdom to fuel your success. On Wednesday evening, Renae Bluitt, creator of In Her Shoes hosted a panel with six of the top women in the beauty industry sharing their tips on defying the odds and coming out on top. The discussion was honest, laced with lots of wisdom, humorous at times, and nothing short of amazing. Over 150 beauty, fashion, and lifestyle mavens mixed and mingled, networked, and enjoyed the conversation while indulging in wine and sweet bites from Evelyn’s Kitchen and Signature 7 Dessert Studios. Where would an Instagram junkie be without her pushers? Somewhere lost I tell ya! After proclaiming my unwavering love for American Apparel nail lacquers on Instagram, Polish Bar’s Tricia Lee chimed in to tell me she was joining forces with the edgy brand for a pop up shop this week.If you’re in BK or the NYC area, swing by and be sure to tell ‘em In Her Shoes sent ya. So it’s the day after Thanksgiving and many of you are either recovering from a turkey-induced coma or out taking advantage of the Black Friday sales. Definitely not knocking the mass retailer’s hustle, but while you’re helping the large corporations get larger, don’t forget about the smaller businesses in your area. Local brands need love too…and lots of it! For many smaller stores, it’s do or die time so let’s do our part to support the hearts of our communities. Last night the Polish Bar of Brooklyn and special guest host, The Fashion Bomb, introduced its “Five Point Beauty Focus” (brow shaping, makeup services, lash application, trend manicures, and pampering massages), in the first installation of the Get Pretty! event series. The brand’s PRO Beauty team, Rebecca Casciano and Starr Blackshere worked their magic on close to 50 beautiful faces as part of the evening’s festivities. Many, many thanks to Goodie Box Bake Shop, Nik Wes Creative, and all of the fly bloggers and digital scribes who helped make last night so amazing!

Last Thursday evening I joined forces with Brooklyn’s beauty hot spot, Polish Bar of Brooklyn, to celebrate the brand’s FAB 5 anniversary. If you’re not based here in New York City but read the blog regularly, you may remember Tricia Lee from her Fly Female Entrepreneur interview back in early 2009 when Polish Bar of Brooklyn was still the new kid on the block. With nothing but love for my fellow boss ladies, helping Tricia Lee bring her brand to life for this unforgettable milestone was an amazing experience. Bernie Bernard of COCOACHiC Beauty to co-host the “Haute Strut” Stiletto Power Speed Networking event. When she approached me with the request to collaborate I didn’t have to think twice. It just made sense. We’ve always admired each other’s work and both wanted to host a NYC event this summer so it didn’t take long for us to hit the ground running.
