Last Thursday I had the honor of sitting front row (well, front table) at ESSENCE Magazine’s “Smart Beauty VII: The Power of Confidence: Reflections on Black Beauty Now” panel event. As part of the presentation, the Smart Beauty VII panel featured a mix of beauty industry experts, tastemakers and legends including: my girl Patrice Grell Yursik, creator, Afrobella.com; Iman, Founder & CEO, Iman Cosmetics; Gabrielle Union, actress; Bethann Hardison, former model, agent and fashion advocate; and ESSENCE Editor-at-Large and event moderator Mikki Taylor. The discussion was BEYOND inspiring so I had to share a few of the highlights with you!
After 10 months of touring the country to celebrate the launch of its new JojOba collection, EDEN BodyWorks hosted its “Brunch with EDEN” series finale in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 11th. Held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown L.A., “Brunch with EDEN” welcomed beauty mavens Patrice Grell Yursik (Afrobella), Felicia Leatherwood (Loving Your Hair with Natural Care), Dr. Kari Williams (Mahogany Revolution Hair Salon), and Cassidy Blackwell (Natural Selection Blog) as guest speakers at the invite-only affair. Here are a few pics from this AH-MAZING event that I’m sure you’ll enjoy!
Afrobella.com and EDEN BodyWorks are joining forces to offer one lucky NYC blogger an ALL-EXPENSE-PAID trip to this year’s Blogging While Brown conference in Philly! As you may already know, this is THE conference to attend if you’re new to the blogging world and/or trying to build your blog’s following and content quality while networking with fellow scribes. Last weekend in Chicago was absolutely beauty-full! As the perfect follow-up to Friday evening’s “Treasure Our Tresses” event, celebrity makeup artist Tia Dantzler hosted her first ever “Beauty Elixer” workshop for makeup artists, stylists, and industry peers. While makeup and styling isn’t my area of expertise, I still managed to walk away enlightened and empowered since much of what was discussed can easily be applied to any career. Tia and her well-curated panel of seasoned industry professionals (including our girl, Afrobella), provided guests with insider tips on getting into the business, branding, strategy, social media, PR and marketing
Last Saturday evening the South Loop’s CityPoint Loft was the place to be for Windy City natural beauties. EDEN BodyWorks joined forces with beauty bloggers “The Mane Source” and “Natural Chica” to host one of the city’s hottest natural hair meetups to date. EDEN BodyWorks VP of Marketing, Ylorie Anderson, spearheaded the event with PR support from yours truly (via Crush Media). In one word, the night was magical! Over 150+ women converged onto the CityPoint Loft for a night of natural hair trivia, mixing and mingling, EDEN BodyWorks product testing, delectable eats, and natural hair-inspired cocktails.
Special guests included: celebrity makeup artist, Tia Dantzler; the “godmother” of brown beauty blogging, Afrobella; YouTube darlings, Vaughn and Meechy Monroe (The Monroe Sisters); and natural hair expert and makeup artist, Rachel Odom
