Aren’t you just loving the Black girl pride that’s in the air these days? Initiatives like Black Girls Rock!, My Black is Beautiful and even our own In Her Shoes “Fly Female Entrepreneur” movement, make being a woman of color an even MORE amazing experience.
One of my favorite monthly reads, Jones Magazine, is keeping the love flowing with their “Black Girls Rock!” winter issue featuring cover girl Keri Hilson. I love the magazine also but I’ve noticed that it’s geared toward a certain financial demographic. Where are the advertisements inside their magazine from the brands they advise their readers to buy? Again this shows that black women as consumers are still an ignored segment of our society and yet we sing the praises of these designers who continually ignore us.
