In Pics: Free the Girls
Features, In Her Shoes Home | 14 Nov 2011Last Thursday evening Image Activist (and all around fly girl) Michaela Angela Davis hosted the very first installation of her “Free the Girls” conversation series. In case you’re not familiar, Michaela has been leading smaller, more intimate discussions similar to this one in her home (or in her guest speaker’s place of business) for a few years now under the “Salon Du Shine” movement. To see this initiative blossom into a full out production at the lovely Brooklyn Museum warmed my heart. As the perfect follow up to the recent “Black Girls Rock!” awards on BET, Michaela sat down with the phenomenal Beverly Bond to chat candidly on the topics of image, beauty, and power. The night was a huge success so I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming conversations Michaela has in store. Much respect and many, many kudos to Michaela, Beverly, and Quan Lateef (producer) on a job well done!
